What the Bible teaches about THE TRINITY

Where did the Trinity begin?  The Bible teaches that the Godhead is an eternal being without beginning and without end.   From the book of Genesis,  it would appear that there was a council of the Trinity  to decide to create  man, the crowning jewel of His creation,  (Genesis 1 :26), “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”

It was the divine purpose that man would have fellowship with God.    The Bible records the stumbling efforts of man and the divine intervention into the affairs of mankind.

The three persons of the Godhead are revealed throughout the Word of God.     It gives their distinct roles.  There have been many efforts to illustrate God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, but all fall short of explaining God.

One illustration refers to God the Father as the nourishment in the soil and water.   The Son, Jesus Christ, is the tree.   He is the visible image of God. The tree produces branches (believers) that are engrafted by the Holy Spirit.  The branches are connected to the tree, but without the nourishment passed from the roots through the tree and into the branches they die.  The branches do not have life of themselves.    They need the tree and the nourishment from the stem.  The Holy Spirit within the believer feeds and produces Christ-likeness, just as the stem does in the tree.

1.  God the Father: invisible, Holy, rules over all, and has power over all creation.   He is to be worshipped and adored.

2. God the Son: Jesus Christ, the express image of the Father (John 14:9), He came to earth to do the will of the Father.   He became the sacrificial Lamb to take away the sins of the world.

3, God the Holy Spirit: the Comforter, the one who convicts the world, He guides us into all truth,  abides in us, seals us until the day of redemption.

This is truly a great mystery.   The Word of God reveals them as distinct, yet one.  The truth of the trinity should give us a desire to come to the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  When we do this, our future is secure with the promise of God and His Word.  (Notice that Matthew 3:16, 17 the activities of all three persons of God at the same time.)
