Is it Possible to find the Perfect Church?

To search for where God wants us to be, we must have the right attitude. There are perfectionists who can find something wrong in any church and anybody in the church, except for themselves.

2 Corinthians 10:12 “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Romans 12:3  “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”

Luke 18:9 “And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:” Jesus then told the parable of the Pharisee and the publican.  The Pharisee went so far as to pray “God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are…” (Luke 18:11) He was clearly judgmental of others.

The proud perfectionist can never see his own need of growing in grace because he thinks he has already arrived, and he is ready to correct everyone else and ignore what is wrong in his own life.

Luke 6:42 “Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

We should be going to church so that God can show us what we look like to Him as we investigate the mirror of His Word, so we know what needs to be fixed in our own life.

James 1:23-25 “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”

Another thing to remember is that there are unsaved people and immature Christians coming to church that need to grow in the Lord.  If we are judgmental toward them, they may not get to the point where they can be changed to be closer to Jesus.  Our actions might drive them away from God.

Our humble attitude, that is willing to forgive others and admit our own faults, will help us find a place to hear God’s Word, worship Him in truth, and have fellowship with accountability to others who have submitted themselves to our gracious Lord and Savior.  No, there is not a perfect church, because we, who are sinful, attend church.  However, God can use even the least of sinners to accomplish His will.  Maybe all it will take for you to find this place of His peace is for there to be a change of attitude.

Isaiah 5:21 “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
