Assuming that I have received Christ as my Savior for my salvation, if I fail to live above sin am I secure?
Answer: Numerous passages of Scripture declare certain facts. The Bible must be our final authority.
- Romans 8:30, “And whom He did predestinate, them He also called; and whom He called, He also justified, and whom He justified, them He also glorified.” This verse tells us that from the moment God chooses us, it is as if we are glorified in His presence in Heaven. There is nothing that can prevent a believer from one day being glorified because God has already considered it done in Heaven. Once a person is justified, his salvation is guaranteed – he is as secure as if he is already glorified in Heaven.
- Two questions: Romans 8:33 – 34, “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? hath chosen? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather that is risen again, Who is even at the right hand of God, Who also maketh intercession for us.” No one will condemn us because Christ, the One who died for us is the only one who can condemn us. We have both the advocate and judge as our Savior.
- Believers are born again (regenerated) when they believe; John 3:3, “except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” For a Christian to become unsaved (unregenerate) is impossible. The Bible gives no evidence that the new birth can be taken away (unbirthed).
- The Holy Spirit indwells all believers; Romans 8:9, “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.” The Holy Spirit baptizes all believers into the Body of Christ. That is security!
- John 3:15, “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” What is eternal life? Life forever. If it’s not eternal but can be lost again and again, the promises of eternal life mentioned in the Bible are in error.
- For the most conclusive argument, I think Romans 8:38, 39, speaks for itself; “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, not things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Remember the same God Who saved you in the first place, is the same God who will keep you.
Our salvation is most definitely eternally secure because it all: rests on God and His Word. God does the saving, not my works. Praise the Lord! He is the Rock of my salvation; I shall not be moved.
