“I get saved every day”

Dear student,

When answering the question “When were you saved?”, your answer was “every day.”

What did you mean by this answer?

*1. When you sin, you need to ask Jesus to come back into your heart OR

*2.  When you sin, you need to ask Christ to forgive you.

First, recognize that after a person asks Christ to forgive his sins, he is given a new nature or becomes a new man.  Has our old nature “died” or been removed?  The Bible teaches that we have two natures after we are saved (Romans 7, the entire chapter).

Secondly, we need to understand verses like, I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.  (John 10:28) and whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  (John 3:16)

The following is a list of eight promises of God which He has given His children for the assurance of their salvation.

(a)  The Finished Work of Christ:

For Christ is entered…into Heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.  Now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.  Hebrews 9:24, 26

(b)  The Definite Promises of the Word:

Verily, verily I say unto you, He that heareth My word and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.  John 5:24

(c)  The High Priestly Work of Christ:

Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.   Hebrews 7:25

(d)  The Believer’s Union with Christ: Each is a member of His Body.

In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord; In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit,   Ephesians 2:21, 22

(e)  The Terms of the New Covenant:

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offer Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.   Hebrews 9:14, 15

(f)  The Father’s Faithfulness to Christ:

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee, Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom Thou hast given Me, that they may be one as We are.   John 17:11

(g)  The Sealing of the Holy Spirit:

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13

In the light of all this, you can rest in the security of the believer.  However, since the old nature is still a part of us, we may sin intentionally or unintentionally.  That does not mean we have lost our salvation (since we learned from the above that it is secure) but have broken our fellowship with God.

The way to restore our fellowship is described in I John 1:9, If we confess our sins (tell on ourselves), He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  The writer, John, continues in chapter 2, and the last part of verse 1, And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

May the Holy Spirit give you the light of understanding and rejoice in the liberty we have in Christ Jesus as children of God and release you from the fear of losing your salvation.
