- Islam is the name for the religion of Muhammed. Those who follow Islam are referred to as Muslims. The word Islam means purity, peace, submission to the will of God (Allah), and obedience to his laws. Islam sets forth religious principles decreed by Allah through revelations to many prophets, including Muhammed. Some were Old Testament prophets and leaders, as well as Jesus Christ, who is accepted as a prophet, but not as divine.
The Bible teaches that, not only is Jesus divine, He is God. Isaiah 9:6 – “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”
- Muhammed believed that an angelic messenger brought legends to him, and he adopted a form of rhymed prose that was set forth in the Koran. The Koran teaches God is One, and this is Allah.
The Bible teaches there is one God, and His name is Jehovah. Psalm 83:18 – “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.” Exodus 20:3 – “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word (Jesus) and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
- The Koran asserts that it is God’s truly inspired book.
The Bible teaches that no other book was given by divine inspiration. 2 Peter 1:21 – “For prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Timothy 3:16 – “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for instruction in righteousness.”
- The Koran teaches God sent his prophets to earth, and the last of these was Muhammed.
The Bible teaches about many prophets throughout the Old Testament, but there is no mention of Muhammed.
1 John 4:1 – “Beloved, believe not every spirit but try the spirits whether they be of God: because many false prophets are gone into the world.”
- The Koran teaches the Day of Judgement will weigh good against evil.
The Bible teaches that Salvation does not depend on good works. Rather, it is secured by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8 and 9 – “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
- The Koran teaches that a pilgrimage to Mecca must be made, when financially able, and that every step in the direction of Mecca blots out a sin.
The Bible teaches that only the blood of Jesus can blot out sins. Hebrews 9:22b – “. . . without shedding of blood is no remission.” 1 John 1:7b – “. . . the blood of Jesus Christ his (God’s) Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
- The Koran teaches the Islamic trinity is the Koran, the Muslim Traditions, and the Prophet Muhammed.
The Bible teaches the Trinity is God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. (1 John 5:7)
- Jihad means Holy War. All Muslim males are called to war against the infidels (those who are not Muslims). Anyone who dies as a result of Jihad is a martyr and is assured of Paradise.
The Bible teaches that the only way to heaven is through the Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:6 –”Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 3:16 and 17 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
