THE PROBLEM OF DOUBT

The problem of doubt is not a new idea. It began back in the Garden of Eden when Satan posed that question to Eve, “Yea, hath God said?” (Genesis 3:1) Satan is anxious for the child of God to doubt the truth of God’s Word and the goodness of God to KEEP His Word.

The reason Satan causes doubt is to keep the believer from enjoying his salvation and the hope of Heaven. Doubt keeps a person from enjoying his Christian life and robs him of living a victorious life. We doubt when we see others suffering and we are not sure of the character of God.

When we read Psalm 73:14-25 we find the Psalmist had a feeling that we sometimes experience. He doubted the goodness of God. Then when he went to the Lord’s house and waited on the Lord, God brought the whole matter into clear focus. David found the way to peace was waiting on the Lord (patience).

Psalm 27:13-14I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord.

The key that unlocks our fears and doubts is FAITH in the PROMISES of God. For if any of God’s promises should fail, than God would fail: 2 Corinthians 1:20For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” Jesus promised those who loved Him that His Word would never pass away – even though heaven and earth would (Matthew 5:18). He cannot fail for HE IS GOD!

So when doubts or fears attack our minds, take them to the Lord, confessing our lack of trust in His Word; and the doubt will vanish with the assurance that “if God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31b

Below are listed some important Scriptures where God makes a promise that He will do or perform what He has said. BELIEVE them and MARK them in your Bible. With a colored pencil put a “P” with each verse as well as underscore it. This will remind you of what God promised.

Proverbs 3:5,6        Romans 8:1, 15        Romans 15:4, 13           I John 3:1, 2

1 John 4:17-18 & 5:13

Now, let’s take a different approach. Is it possible that you have allowed some unconfessed sin to remain in your life, which is grieving the Holy Spirit? If you are conscience that you have, confess it. It may be that Satan is using this to give you doubts. Search your heart and as the Spirit brings them to your remembrance, confess them to the Lord so that your fellowship can be restored with the Lord. I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
